Payroll and HR Software company takes top honours at premier South West Business Event after demonstrating continued strong growth and increased customer satisfaction

Carval Computing has won the Herald Business Award for Best Medium-sized Business of the Year. The award presentation was made at a black-tie, gala dinner held at the Plymouth Pavilions and comes only four years after Carval won the award for Best Small Business at the inaugural event in 2011. Now one of the most anticipated dates in the South West business calendar, the awards celebrate the very best in the region’s business and entrepreneurialism. Carval is a specialist supplier of fully integrated HR, Payroll and Time & Attendance software and apps, and has seen particular growth in the demand for its Payroll Bureau Services.

Jason Sweby, Technical Director for Carval, who was proud to collect the gong on the night stated;
“This is a reward for all the employees who work so hard to make Carval what it is today. We are delighted that we were shortlisted from hundreds of entries, and then judged as the winner – certainly a testament from the judging panel, made up of business experts, who recognise the hard work of the team, growth of the company and contribution that Carval is making to business in the region.”

In 2014, Carval saw 31 new customers and continued growth in terms of headcount and turnover. Customer satisfaction has improved dramatically due to a restructuring of the Support Desk and growth of the product development team by 20%. Carval achieved BACS accreditation for its bureau service, allowing the company to process BACS payments on behalf of third parties, which saw the Payroll Bureau grow by 46%. In the last 12 months Carval has seen a marked increase in customers from the South West, attributed to sustained growth in the region.
John Ovington, Sales and Support Director at Carval added; “We are delighted to win the award for Best Medium-sized Business, particularly as it is so soon after winning Best Small Business. Despite the recession we have seen continued demand for our products and services, as all businesses both large and small can benefit from managing their largest asset, their staff, efficiently and fairly.”

Carval now has over 360 customer organisations from the private and public sector, with recent additions from the South West including Broadway Lodge, Somerset, The Brandon Trust, Bristol, and Ivybridge Community College. Other notable new customers include Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Mossbourne Community Academy, Twycross Zoo, Kings College Students Union and St Christopher’s Hospice
