National Park Authority invests in HR software with Self-Service for 130 staff and reaps efficiency benefits

Carval Computing, a specialist supplier of fully integrated Human Resources software, has announced that The Yorkshire Dales National Park has recently extended its use of HR Unity to include the Time and Attendance (T&A) and HR modules. The Yorkshire Dales Park Authority has been using Carval’s Payroll since 2012, and is now using the system for HR administration for around 130 permanent staff, plus its governing committee of 22 Members and seasonal employees. The Carval T&A solution replaces a standalone system, which did not collect the required data or link to payroll. Now staff hours are fed directly to payroll, streamlining operations and improving accuracy.
Carval’s solution was selected following a competitive tender process for its ease of use and fully integrated systems that supported one set of shared data.
“We had been using Carval’s payroll software successfully for a couple of years since we brought payroll in-house for easier administration. This approach provides us with a lot more flexibility and control,” explained Hannah Clarke, Head of HR at The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. “In common with the rest of the public sector, we faced reducing budgets, therefore it made sense to extend our use of Carval’s systems to include Time and Attendance and HR integrated with the payroll, which has really increased our efficiencies. We now have a single source for all staff data, which reduces errors and saves time keying into different systems. We also have access to comprehensive and powerful reporting. These increased efficiencies have enabled us to provide a better service to our staff, with fewer resources.”

Staff at the Park Authority use Carval’s HR Unity Online Self-Service platform to check their outstanding leave and book holidays, which are then approved online by the managers. Managers can check absence records online and review trends of sickness and leave. Staff are also able to update their details online, ensuring that HR data is kept fully up to date.
John Ovington, Sales and Support Director at Carval Computing said; “We have designed our integrated HR and Payroll software to make reporting and management easier for HR professionals. It has many benefits for the organisation – HR data can be set up by an HR administrator and the Self-Service option enables the employee to add personal data. A payroll administrator can then use the same core data – one set of data means less mistakes, which is better for the staff and the company.”
Carval solutions are available as on premise, hosted or outsourced solutions.
